Manchester United favourites to sign Bayern Munich star

Manchester United are reportedly regarded as the front-runners to land the signature of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

The Spaniard has declined to sign a new deal with Bayern beyond next summer and he is expected to be sold at the end of the current season.

Liverpool have been touted as the favourites to sign him over the past month but Sport claims that the Red Devils have moved ahead in the player's pursuit.

United are currently well stocked with options in the centre of the park but it is reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not want to miss out on the opportunity to sign the experience ace on a cut-price deal.

Alcantara has been with the Bavarian giants for past seven years and during this period, he has been one of their leading performers with 31 goals and 37 assists from 231 games.

He has been offered a fresh long-term deal by the German champions but has declined the package in order to pursue a fresh challenge in a different league.
