Chelsea, Manchester United miss out on Nigerian striker
Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly missed out on the services of Victor Osimhen with the Nigerian on the cusp of joining Napoli.
The 21-year-old joined Lille from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2019 as a replacement for Nicolas Pepe, who made the move to Arsenal.
He contributed 18 goals and six assists for the French outfit before the 2019/2020 Ligue 1 season was curtailed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In recent weeks, Napoli have been in advanced negotiations with Lille to land his signature and it appears that they have eventually sealed the deal.
According to The Guardian, the Naples outfit have agreed on a club-record fee for the player and an announcement is likely to be made in the near future.
The club will part with an initial £54m for his services while a remaining £19m will be settled in the form of performance-based bonuses.
The Nigeria international is set to sign a five-year contract with the Serie A outfit with the option for another 12 months, if required.
Chelsea and United had looked at the possibility of signing him, but they were put off by Lille's £73m price tag for the Super Eagles forward.
