Mikel Arteta speaks on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's future
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has said that he wants to build his squad around Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Gabon international ended the 2019/2020 season with 29 goals and two of those came in the 2-1 comeback win over Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
Following the game, Arteta heaped praise on Aubameyang and talked up the possibility of a new contract for the 31-year-old forward.
"Aubameyang knows what I think about him, I want to build the squad around him. I think he wants to stay; it’s about getting the deal done," he told via Sky Sports.
Aubameyang's current deal expires at the end of next season and the lack of progress in contract talks has spread speculation regarding his future with the club.
It was recently suggested that the Gunners may need to win the FA Cup to convince Aubameyang to stay. Having lifted the trophy, it remains to be seen whether he will put pen-to-paper on a new contract.
