Manchester United made surprise approach for Everton star
Manchester United made a surprise approach to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin earlier this summer, The Sun reports.
The Red Devils have experienced a quiet transfer window where they have signed just one player in the form of Donny van de Beek.
They are eyeing at least two more signings before the deadline next month and one of them could be focused on strengthening the attack.
According to The Sun, the Red Devils were keen on landing Calvert-Lewin earlier this summer, but they were put off by the £80m price tag.
Calvert-Lewin has made a sensational start to the current campaign with four goals from two outings and that includes a hat-trick against West Brom.
Earlier this year, he signed a new long-term deal until the summer of 2025 and the Merseyside outfit are in a strong position to keep hold of him.
Everton are currently second in the league standings. They are scheduled to face Fleetwood Town in the EFL Cup third round tomorrow.
