Antonio Rudiger turned down move to Tottenham Hotspur
Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger reportedly rejected the opportunity to join Tottenham Hotspur on loan due to fears over a backlash from Blues supporters.
The German was heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this month and reports claimed that he could join Spurs on loan with the option to buy next summer.
However, a deal never materialised and The Athletic reveals the centre-back played a role in the decision. Rudiger was wary of criticism from the Blues faithful and hence turned down a move to arch-rivals Spurs.
Rudiger has been out-of-favour under Frank Lampard since the start of the season. He made the bench for the season opener at Brighton & Hove Albion, but has since been excluded from the matchday squad.
Despite this, he has been picked by Germany for the forthcoming internationals. He may consider his Blues future in January, should his position under Lampard fail to improve.
Rudiger has made 115 appearances for the Blues to date.
