Danny Welbeck released by Watford
Danny Welbeck released by Watford
Championship side Watford have confirmed that Danny Welbeck has parted ways with the club through a mutual agreement.
The England international joined the Hornets on a free transfer last summer after he was released from Arsenal.
His debut season with the Hornets was hampered by injuries and he managed only three goals from 20 appearances across all competitions.
Earlier last month, it appeared that he could make the move to Southampton, who were looking to trigger the £5m exit clause on his contract.
However, that was not the case. The Saints recently re-signed Theo Walcott on loan from Everton to fulfil their requirement for a wide player.
It has now been officially confirmed that Welbeck has been released from his contract which was due to expire in June 2022.
"Watford FC confirms that it has reached an agreement to allow Danny Welbeck to leave on a free transfer," a club statement read.
"We wish Danny every success in the future."
