Virgil van Dijk suffers serious knee injury?

Liverpool could be without Virgil van Dijk for a lengthy period of time after he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament while facing Everton on the road.

The Netherlands international was forced off the pitch in the 11th minute following a poor challenge from Toffees goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Van Dijk was able to walk off the pitch with limited assistance, but BeIN Sport claims that he could miss the majority of the current season.

The Dutchman has reported suffered an ACL damage on his right knee and he could be out of action between seven to eight months.

If that is the case, it could be a huge blow for the Reds, who are looking to defend the Premier League title for the first time in three decades.

They will be left with only Joe Gomez and Joel Matip as the specialist centre-backs until the transfer window reopens in January.
