Arteta heaps praise on Partey's performance

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has heaped praise on Thomas Partey following his impressive showing against Rapid Wien in the Europa League.

The north London side secured a 2-1 comeback triumph over the Austrian outfit on Thursday and Partey had a solid performance in the centre of the park.

The Ghana international started his first-ever game for the Gunners after his summer move from Atletico Madrid and he caught the eye with five tackles while completing 83 of his 92 passes.

He started the game in a slow fashion as he was adapting to the style of play, but controlled the proceedings in the second half as the Gunners came from behind to pick up three points.

Speaking after the game at the Allianz Stadion, Arteta was pleased with the display from the 27-year-old and believes there is much more to come from the deadline day signing.

"Partey looked really solid, really comfortable. He held midfield by himself in the second half when we were more open... He was fantastic tonight and there's much more to come," He told via Football.London.

Partey can be fancied to make his maiden Premier League start when the Gunners host Leicester City on Sunday. The north London side are presently fifth on the table with nine points, four adrift of surprise leaders Everton.
