Chelsea to miss out on Declan Rice?
Chelsea could miss out on signing midfielder Declan Rice from West Ham United during the winter transfer window.
The Blues spent more than £220m on seven high-profile signings this summer, but their start to the season has been average.
The west London side have accumulated only nine points from the first six league games and are currently winless in back-to-back matches.
According to The Express, Frank Lampard wanted to sign a new defensive midfielder over the summer and Rice was obviously the prime target.
A deal did not materialise due to the hefty £80m price tag set by the Hammers, but they may try again at the beginning of next year.
However, their plans could be scuppered by the Hammers, who are ready to reward the midfielder with a new bumper deal.
Rice is content at the club despite the speculation and it is reported that the Hammers are prepared to double his current £60,000-a-week salary.
The 21-year-old has captained his side in four of the six Premier League games this term. He has been ever-present on the playing field.
