Real Madrid to compete with Barcelona for Liverpool star

Real Madrid could go head-to-head with arch-rivals Barcelona in the pursuit of Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Dutchman will enter the final seven months of his Liverpool contract next month and he has yet to agree terms over an extension.

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman has openly stated that he is an admirer of the midfielder and the club could propose to sign him on a free next summer.

However, Corriere dello Sport claims that they may face direct competition from Los Blancos in the pursuit of the 30-year-old.

Los Blancos are expected to make a raft of changes next summer and it is suggested that Wijnaldum is on the radar of Zinedine Zidane.

Liverpool have recently placed a fresh three-year deal on the table for the Dutchman where they are prepared to increase his current wages.

So far, there has been no progress over the renewal and he would be free to discuss a pre-contract with an overseas club at the turn of the year.
