Frank Lampard provides fresh fitness update on Christian Pulisic

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has revealed that Christian Pulisic won't be fit for the weekend's Premier League clash against Newcastle United.

The United States international suffered a hamstring injury during the warm-up before the Burnley game last month and it appears that he has yet to overcome the problem.

Pulisic has been able to step into training in recent days, but Lampard has said that he won't be fit enough to face the Magpies on the road, he told: "Pulisic is not fit for Newcastle but has stepped up his training."

The Blues have experienced a mixed start to the Premier League season, but they were able to find momentum before the international break with two wins on the bounce.

A victory in Saturday's early kick-off would temporarily take them to the top of the table on goal difference. That won't be straightforward, however, with their poor record at St James' Park.

They have won just one of their previous seven matches at the stadium.
