Real Madrid have reportedly earmarked Romelu Lukaku as a potential candidate to replace Karim Benzema in the long run.

Lukaku has been in sublime form for Inter over the past 18 months where he has registered 43 goals and eight assists from 60 outings.

Likewise, Benzema has been a vital player for Los Blancos and he netted 26 times last season, which was 15 more than Sergio Ramos, who was the second top scorer.

Still, the club are looking into the future with Benzema approaching his 33rd birthday and Marca claims that Florentino Perez has identified Lukaku as the potential successor.

Lukaku, who has previous Premier League experience with Manchester United and Everton, was on the radar of Manchester City during last summer's transfer window.

His current deal with the Nerazzurri only expires in the summer of 2024 and he is bound to cost more than £100m for any club aiming to sign him at the end of the season.
