Real Madrid make contact with Arsenal target Dominik Szoboszlai

Real Madrid have reportedly joined Arsenal in the race to sign midfielder  Dominik Szoboszlai from Red Bull Salzburg at the turn of the year.

The Hungarian has made good progress with the Austrian champions in recent years and he has been tipped to pursue a fresh challenge next month.

The Gunners have been touted as one of the favourites to sign the midfielder, who has an £18m release clause on his contract, but they are set to face competition.

According to Bild, Los Blancos manager Zinedine Zidane has recently made a personal phone call to the 20-year-old in a bid to lure him to the Bernabeu in January.

The La Liga holders are prepared to offer him significant wages that the Gunners can't afford, but at the end of the day, it could come to which team can guarantee regular gametime.

Mikel Arteta's side are definitely in the better position to do so, but it remains to be seen whether they can convince him with the lack of Champions League football.
