The Spanish giants are on the verge of making a whopping £ 50M bid for Cristiano Ronaldo. The club's technical director Predraj Mijatovic was reportedly in talks with the player's agent last Saturday.

Cristiano Ronaldo is Real Madrid's top summer target, as the Spanish champions look forward to emphasise their supremacy in world football. Manchester United will have difficulty in keeping hold of the in-form Ronaldo though he had once snubbed an offer from the Whites.

The Portugese winger is the highest paid player in United's history on £120,000 a week. It is evident that the Madrid club will have to pay him more to get his signature on the contract papers. Reports say that the Whites and their sponsors are putting together a wage package that would pay Ronaldo an £8 million-a-year, making him the highest-paid player in the world.

Real Madrid's had eyed to sign the former World Player of the Year, Kaka from AC Milan, but the deal did not happen. Kaka declared that he was more than happy in Milan. The Madrid side declared their interest in Ronaldo quite a long time ago, trying to make him un-settled, a trick they had played successfully to lure David Beckham from Old Trafford.

Ramon Calderon, the president of the Whites, wants Cristiano Ronaldo to be in his team to increase the glamour of the team and to ensure a champions league success next season. A world-record fee will be too good to turn down for the Glazer family, who are finding it difficult to finace loans due to the global credit crunch.

Ronaldo is enjoying an impressive display topping the goal scoring charts in England and the Champions League. He has given hints that Spainish League is where he want to play and showcase his skills. He admitted that La Liga is more beautiful and he would love to be a part of it.

"It's my dream to play in Spain. Only God knows what will happen in the future. I'd like to find out the difference between playing in England and Spain." he said.

With the other spanish giants, Barcelona looking all set to sign Brazilian playmaker Diego, the obvious choice for Ronaldo is Real Madrid. He is likely to be joined by another EPL goal getter, Didier Drogba who is also linked with a move to the Bernabeu. It is obvious that both the players will instantly command a position in the starting line-up.
