Bayern favourites to land Upamecano

Bayern Munich have jumped ahead of Manchester United and Liverpool in the race to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

The Frenchman is regarded as one of Bundesliga's best centre-backs and he has been regularly linked with a move away from Leipzig.

Upamecano's current deal has a release clause worth £38m which will become active in June and Bild claims that Bayern will be favourites to sign him.

United and Liverpool have also been credited with an interest, but the German champions are leading the queue for his services.

The club's hierarchy have recently held a secret meeting with the player's agent as they look to lure the 22-year-old to the club this summer.

Upamecano has regularly played in the middle of a back three. Leipzig have conceded only 17 goals in the Bundesliga.

Bayern are expected to part ways with Jerome Boateng and David Alaba when their respective contracts expire in the summer.

Upamecano has been identified as one of the top targets to bolster their central defensive department ahead of next season.
