Solskjaer objected against Upamecano move

Manchester United did not make a serious attempt to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano under the request of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Upamecano had been regularly linked with the Red Devils but his future became clear earlier this week as Bayern Munich confirmed an agreement to sign him this summer.

It is now revealed that United's hierarchy were interested in the Frenchman, but Solskjaer objected the move. The Norwegian is said to want a left-footed centre-back at the club.

Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire have been the regular pairing in the central defence this term with Eric Bailly acting as the deputy. All three of them are right-footed.

Bayern Munich's David Alaba has recently emerged as an option for the Red Devils, but the Austrian appears likely to turn down the interest to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

United have been inconsistent with their displays over the past month, but they are still second on the Premier League table ahead of Leicester City on goal difference.
