Calhanoglu set for new Milan contract

Manchester United appear set to miss out on Hakan Calhanoglu with the attacker on the verge of signing a new contract with AC Milan.

The Turkey international has been in fine form for the Rossoneri this term, registering six goals and 11 assists in all competitions.

Earlier in December, it was claimed that United were interested in the 27-year-old and they could sign him on a pre-contract.

However, according to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, that appears unlikely to happen with Calhanoglu in advanced contract talks with Milan.

Calhanoglu's current deal expires at the end of June. He recently snubbed a contract offer which did not meet his demands.

Still, negotiations have continued with the San Siro giants and the club are now confident that he will commit to a long-term deal.

Calhanoglu recently returned from injury and he is likely to face Manchester United in the second leg of the Europa League last 16.

The Rossoneri have the away-goal advantage after the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford and are in a good position to progress.
