Barcelona are reportedly planning to step up their interest in signing Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero this summer.

The Argentine will pursue a new club when his contract with the Cityzens expires in June, and he won't be short of offers.

The Blaugrana have been heavily linked with his services, and Sport claims that they are planning to hold negotiations with the player.

They are not in a position to compete with Juventus in terms of wages (£8.7m per year), but are still optimistic of signing him.

Aguero has a close relationship with Lionel Messi, and the club are hoping to entice him with the chance to play with his compatriot.

Messi's own future is uncertain with his contract expiring this summer, but the Catalan giants are positive about keeping him.

Newly-elected president Joan Laporta is personally in contact with Messi over an extension, but so far, the 33-year-old has not given the green light.
