United want Torres and Varane

Manchester United are reportedly planning to sign two central defenders during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are in negotiations with Real Madrid for Raphael Varane, and they could sign him in the coming weeks.

The World Cup winner has rejected a new contract with Los Blancos. With just a year left on his deal, they are prepared to cash in.

A fee of around €50m could be sufficient to sign the France international.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are also interested in signing Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres this summer.

They are unlikely to meet the €60m release clause. However, they could sign him for half the price with Eric Bailly moving the other way.

United have regularly played with a 4-2-3-1 formation, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could set-up with a back three next season.

Varane and Torres could feature either side of club-captain Harry Maguire. Torres could be used in rotation with Victor Lindelof.
