United to miss out on Varane?

Manchester United have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

The Red Devils are keen on signing a new centre-back this summer, and reports have claimed that they have agreed terms with Varane.

However, they have yet to finalise a transfer fee with Los Blancos and Defensa Central claims that a deal is highly improbable.

Los Blancos president Florentino Perez still holds grudges with the Red Devils for the failed transfer of David de Gea in 2015.

He is likely to block the transfer of Varane to United, and would prefer to wait for offers from other interested European clubs.

Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have also been linked with Varane, but the former appear unlikely to make an approach for his services.

They recently signed Sergio Ramos on a free transfer, and are not expected to pursue another central defender this summer.

The Blues could emerge as the front-runners to land the World Cup winner if United are unable to convince Perez to change his stance.
