Manchester City are prepared to make an opening bid for Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.

The England international is one of the top targets for the Premier League champions, and they are now lining up a formal approach.

According to The Mail, the Cityzens will make an opening offer worth £75m for the 25-year-old with performance-based add-ons.

However, Villa are expected to reject the transfer proposal. They are reluctant to lose their skipper for anything less than £100m.

Grealish only signed a new contract last year. He still has four years remaining, and Villa are in a strong position to keep him.

The club's hierarchy are determined for him to stay. They plan to propose a new contract with wages in excess of £150,000-a-week.

Meanwhile, reports elsewhere claim that the Midlands outfit are braced for the player's exit, and they are lining up replacements.

They have already signed Emiliano Buendia on a club-record deal, and are now in advanced talks to land Todd Cantwell and Leon Bailey.
