Manchester United plan Luke Shaw extension

Manchester United are prepared to hand a new contract to defender Luke Shaw, according to The Mail.

The England international was hugely impressive for the Red Devils last term, and he carried his form to the European Championships.

Shaw registered three assists for the Three Lions, and also scored in the final against Italy, where they lost in the penalty shoot-out.

The 26-year-old has two years remaining on his current deal, and The Mail claims that the hierarchy are keen to prolong his stay.

Shaw is currently on wages worth £150,000-a-week. He could earn a £50,000 hike on his weekly salary with an extension.

United start their Premier League campaign against Leeds United in two weeks' time. It is uncertain whether Shaw will play.

The club are likely to assess him with reports that he played with cracked ribs at Euro 2020. Brandon Williams could start at left-back.

Alex Telles is out until September with an ankle injury sustained in training.
