Liverpool pull out of right-back pursuit, Everton favourites to sign teenager
Everton are considered favourites to sign Rangers teenager Nathan Patterson with Liverpool pulling out of the race, The Sun reports.
The Toffees were desperate to land a new right-back during the recent transfer window, but they were unsuccessful in their efforts.
The Merseyside club failed with an offer of £5m to sign Patterson. Gers boss Steven Gerrard deemed the proposal as a joke.
They are now prepared to try again in January. It is reported that the club have decided to meet the £10 million asking price.
Liverpool have also been linked with the highly-rated Scottish full-back, but they are unlikely to revive their interest in the New Year.
Patterson has been identified by the Toffees as a long-term successor to Seamus Coleman rather than replacing him straightaway.
The club tried to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles on loan last month to provide cover for Coleman, but Arsenal rejected the proposal.
They currently have Jonjoe Kenny as the deputy. The 24-year-old has entered the final year of his deal, and could be sold in January.
