Mata ready to leave Manchester United in January

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is ready to leave the club in January amid his struggles for playing time.

The Spaniard has managed just 64 minutes for the Red Devils this term. He has yet to make an appearance in the Premier League.

According to Manchester Evening News, Mata is prepared to leave the club in January despite his contract expiring next summer.

The midfielder's previous contract was due to expire in June this year, but United triggered a 12-month extension clause.

Mata has since been an unused substitute in the Premier League games. His only playing time has come in the League Cup.

With United out of the competition, he may potentially not play again for them for the rest of the year, barring an injury crisis.

The former Chelsea man is reluctant to continue in the same role, and could push for an exit when the transfer window reopens.

The 33-year-old could terminate his £160k-a-week deal with United before pursuing a free transfer on a significant pay cut.
