Newcastle United to swoop for ex-Liverpool playmaker?
Newcastle United are seriously interested in signing former Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho in January.
The Brazilian was a huge favourite during his five seasons with the Reds, but he left them for Barcelona three years ago.
The 29-year-old has since struggled for form and consistency, and has been touted to return to the Premier League.
Leicester City and Arsenal have been linked with his services in the past, but neither have made formal offers for him.
According to Bild, there is now concrete interest in Coutinho from the Magpies and the club are weighing up a mid-season deal.
The Blaugrana still owe Liverpool €43m for their record transfer, and part of that sum depends on the appearances made.
They must pay the Reds around €20m if Coutinho plays 100 games for them. He is currently on 96 appearances for the club.
It won't be a surprise if the Catalan giants refuse to play him ahead of his potential exit during the winter transfer window.
