Palmeiras have their sights on landing Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani next year, according to Mercado da Bola.

The 34-year-old has had a tough second season with the Red Devils with his limited game time from the starting line-up.

Cavani has made just two league starts, and one of those came at Spurs last week where he lined up alongside Cristiano Ronaldo up front.

In the subsequent Champions League game, he was dropped back to the bench with Marcus Rashford picked ahead of him.

Cavani has cut a frustrated figure amid his situation, and he could leave on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.

There are also suggestions that he could exit for a nominal fee in January amid interest from Barcelona and Boca Juniors.

Palmeiras are the latest to be linked. They are set to announce Leila Pereira as their new president, and she is willing to meet Cavani's wage demands.

Cavani is currently on around £250,000-a-week at United. He is likely to demand a similar remuneration at his next club.
