Liverpool boss wanted to sign Manchester United star?

Cavani was on Klopp's radar

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was interested in signing Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani earlier this year.

The Uruguayan was fancied to leave the Red Devils this summer before he committed to a new one-year contract.

It is now revealed that Liverpool were interested in signing Cavani, had he snubbed a new deal with the Red Devils.

Jurgen Klopp wanted a new striker during the summer, but the hierarchy were only willing to bring in a low-cost option.

Ultimately, they did not bring in anyone. Divock Origi was touted to leave throughout the summer, but he ended up staying.

The Belgian has done a credible job as a deputy up front. He has bagged three goals and two assists from seven games.

The 26-year-old could still be on the move in January if the Reds want to recoup funds rather than losing him on a free transfer.

His contract expires next summer, and there are no plans to renew his deal.
