Liverpool have been handed a potential blow in the pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.

The Reds lost the services of Georginio Wijnaldum after his contract expired last summer, but they did not pursue a replacement.

They are likely to address the midfield void next summer, and it has been widely reported that Bellingham is the prime target.

The club's hierarchy are willing to break their transfer record for the teenage sensation, but they may struggle to sign him.

According to Liverpool Echo, the England international is happy with the proceedings at Dortmund over the past 18 months.

The 18-year-old has been touted for a Premier League move this year, but he does not plan to leave his club anytime soon.

Dortmund also have a similar stance over their prized asset next summer as they are braced to lose Erling Braut Haaland.

The Norway international currently has a £65m release clause on his contract that becomes active at the end of the season.
