Newcastle United to sign former Liverpool star?

Newcastle United are reportedly keen on re-signing Georginio Wijnaldum from Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window.

The Netherlands international joined Les Parisiens on a free transfer last summer after the expiry of his Liverpool contract.

He has since struggled to nail down a regular starting role, and AS claims that he has expressed his desire to return to England.

The Magpies have been the first side to express an interest in signing Wijnaldum, and talks are underway with Les Parisiens.

The Dutchman spent just one season with the Tyneside outfit between 2015 and 2016, but was a huge hit with 11 goals and five assists.

Newcastle are looking forward to a bright future after their Saudi-led takeover, and they are expected to go on a winter spending spree.

The onus is on pursuing players with Premier League experience, and Wijnaldum would be an ideal addition with 237 games under his belt.

The 31-year-old could cost around £30m in the upcoming transfer window.
