Chelsea eyeing summer deal for French striker
Chelsea have reportedly earmarked Reims forward Hugo Ekitike as a potential target for the summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old has been in fine form for the Ligue 1 outfit this term, bagging eight goals and two assists from 17 games.
His progress has apparently caught the eye of Newcastle United, but the Magpies are yet to make any progress in negotiations.
Amidst this, Foot Mercato claims that Chelsea have entered the pursuit of the striker, and have initiated talks with Reims.
The Blues are willing to sign him for around £33m. They are prepared to send him back on loan unlike the Magpies.
Ekitike's current deal does not expire until the summer of 2024. Reims are still in a strong position to discuss his future.
They may not rush their decision, and could potentially wait until the summer in the hope that they receive better proposals.
Reims are presently 14th in Ligue 1, seven points adrift of the drop zone. Ekitike has scored one-third of their league goals.
