Manchester United to swoop for Barcelona centre-back?

Manchester United are planning an attempt to sign Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo this summer, Sport claims.

The Uruguayan has 17 months remaining on his contract, and he has yet to be convinced to sign a new long-term deal.

The Blaugrana have made an offer on the table, but it is claimed that United are willing to pay double to lure him this summer.

The Red Devils have already made contact with his representatives, and are hopeful of making an approach later this year.

Araujo remains open to staying with the Catalan giants, but he is reluctant to pen an extension unless his demands are met.

Aside from United, Chelsea and Liverpool are also among clubs that have been credited with an interest in the 22-year-old.

Araujo has developed into a top centre-back over the past few years, and he is currently an undisputed choice under Xavi.

Xavi is keen on keeping hold of him, but the final decision rests on the hierarchy. Araujo is eyeing €100,000-a-week.
