Manchester United keeping tabs on Chelsea defender?

Manchester United could reportedly make an approach to sign Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger this summer.

The Red Devils bolstered their central defensive department last summer with the big-money arrival of Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.

Despite this, there remains vulnerability at the heart of the defence. Harry Maguire has endured a difficult campaign by his usual standards.

According to Daily Mail, United are one of the clubs keeping tabs on Rudiger, who recently turned down a fresh contract offer from the Blues.

Ralf Rangnick has been a fond admirer of the 28-year-old from his time in Bundesliga, and has recommended his name to the hierarchy.

The German tactician has only been appointed as the interim manager, but will take up an advisory role at the club for the next two seasons.

While the next permanent manager will want players of his own, Rangnick may also play a big role in the transfer proceedings this summer.

Rudiger will be available on a free transfer with his contract expiring in June. Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on him.
