Manchester United are reportedly weighing up an approach for Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji.

Akanji will enter the final year of his Dortmund contract this summer, and he has no plans of renewing unless the club double his £80,000-a-week wages.

Dortmund are reluctant to meet his demands, and Bild reports that he could be sold for around £21m during the summer.

Ralf Rangnick has reportedly urged United to pursue Akanji, having previously missed on landing the services of Niklas Sule.

Akanji has the dream of playing in the English top-flight, and the Red Devils are currently deemed favourites to land him.

United currently have Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones as the centre-back options.

Among them, Bailly and Jones are expected to leave amid the lack of minutes. Akanji could come in to fill the void.

He may not be assured with regular game time, but could be considered as a strong competitor for the central defensive spots.
