Manchester United handed chance to land Dortmund star?

Manchester United could be handed the opportunity to sign Erling Braut Haaland amid Real Madrid's pursuit of Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe has been Los Blancos' prime target for the past year, and they are favourites to sign him when his PSG deal expires in June.

With the huge outlay on the salary, signing-on and agent fees, the La Liga giants seems unlikely to make an approach for Haaland.

They are willing to wait until next year to sign the Norwegian, but it appears unlikely that the striker will stay patient for the opportunity.

According to AS, this would open up the chance for other clubs including United, who have been long-term admirers of his services.

United initially tried to sign him from Molde. They made a second attempt when he was contracted with Red Bull Salzburg in 2019.

They could be third time lucky in the pursuit, but it could be improbable task if they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Haaland has a release clause worth €75m on his contract which becomes active shortly after the conclusion of the current season.
