Manchester United are reportedly confident of signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong on a cut-price deal this month.

The Catalan giants need to balance their financial books by June 30, and are prepared to sanction a big sale over the coming weeks.

De Jong appears the likely candidate to leave, and The Sun reports that United could sign him for a reduced fee of around £50m.

The Netherlands international is valued at £73m by the Blaugrana, but their financial issues could see them accept a lower fee.

De Jong has regularly spoken about his dream of playing for the Spanish heavyweights, but he has not ruled out a departure.

United don't seem to have any competition at the moment as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are yet to make an approach.

Both clubs are keeping tabs on De Jong's situation, but have not entered direct talks with the Blaugrana unlike the Red Devils.

Barcelona reportedly have Carlos Soler lined up as De Jong's replacement.
