Manchester United are weighing up a fresh bid for midfielder Frenkie de Jong, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano claims.

The Netherlands international is the priority midfield target for the Red Devils, but they are yet to meet the transfer valuation.

Barcelona want at least €80 million upfront for the 25-year-old, but United's opening offer was just €60m plus add-ons.

The Catalan giants instantly snubbed the proposal, but United still remain optimistic that they can pursue De Jong's services.

The Dutchman has been convinced to join United by manager Erik ten Hag, and a fee of around €70m upfront could be enough.

United are yet to make any signings this summer. They have had a slow beginning to the transfer window unlike their rivals.

The club were initially touted to sign Darwin Nunez from Benfica, but he snubbed their advances to join arch-rivals Liverpool.

Meanwhile, a deal for Jurrien Timber also appears unlikely. The Ajax star has decided to stay put in a World Cup year.
