Arsenal make fresh offer for Lisandro Martinez

Arsenal have made a fresh bid to sign Lisandro Martinez from Ajax this summer, De Telegraaf reports.

The Gunners are eyeing a strong competitor to Kieran Tierney in the left-back position and have identified Martinez as the prime transfer target.

The Argentine played exclusively from central defence last term, but he is more than capable of operating from the left side of the backline.

Earlier this month, Arsenal failed with a low bid of €30m for Martinez, but they have now returned with an improved offer of €40m plus add-ons.

The proposal still falls short of the €50m price tag set by the Dutch champions, but the Gunners are confident of pursuing the player's services.

Manchester United are also interested in the versatile defender, but they have only held negotiations with the player's representatives thus far.

Their prime focus remains on finalising the transfer of midfielder Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona. Arsenal have the clear edge at the moment.
