Man Utd face delay in Frenkie de Jong pursuit

De Jong's move to United delayed

Manchester United are unlikely to secure the services of Frenkie de Jong ahead of their pre-season tour, The Athletic claims.

The Red Devils had their sights on landing the Dutchman before July 8, but that appears an improbable task at the moment.

While they have agreed on a €65m fee up front with Barcelona, negotiations are ongoing behind the scenes over add-ons.

Barcelona are asking for around €20m in performance bonuses, but United are still aiming to bargain on the proposed sum.

Hence, it is unlikely that De Jong will be signed in time for the pre-season tour of Thailand, but he could report in Australia.

The Red Devils play a friendly against Liverpool on July 12 before travelling Down Under. It is assumed that De Jong will join by then.

Manchester United announced their first summer signing earlier today with Tyrell Malacia arriving from Dutch side Feyenoord.

The 22-year-old will be part of the travelling squad and he could be joined by Christian Eriksen, who is set to join on a free.
