Chelsea face Bayern competition for defender

Chelsea hopeful of landing De Ligt

Chelsea will need to battle it out with Bayern Munich to sign Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer.

The Blues are keen on landing the Netherlands international and they recently failed with an opening bid of £35 million plus Timo Werner.

They are expected to make a renewed approach for De Ligt, but Sky Germany claim that Bayern are also in the running to sign him.

The Dutch star recently spoke with Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann and has given the go-ahead to join the German champions.

Despite this, Chelsea are not prepared to give up on him, and it is claimed that Juventus' £70 million asking price could benefit the Blues.

Bayern are unlikely to make such a huge outlay on De Ligt. This should hand a boost for Chelsea, who could pay a big fee up front.

Chelsea are desperate to bolster their central defence this summer, having lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers.
