Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly asked Manchester United to terminate the final year of his contract.

The Portugal international is desperate to play Champions League football for a 20th straight season, and has yet to return to training.

He has made his desire clear to the United hierarchy, and The Times report that he is hopeful of relinquishing his contract with the club.

Ronaldo has one more year left on his contract with the option for 12 months. He is said to be eyeing mutual termination of his deal.

As things stand, United have no interest in accepting his proposal, but things could change towards the end of the summer transfer window.

United are looking at a versatile forward to add to their ranks, and have been linked with the likes of Antony as well as Moussa Diaby.

If they were to sign either player, there could be the temptation to part ways with Ronaldo as they can save his hefty £350,000-a-week wages.
