Azpi signs new deal

Cesar Azpilicueta has signed a new two year contract at Stamford Bridge, ending months of speculation regarding the defender's transfer status at the club. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were both reportedly tracking the defender, but instead 'Azpi' has opted to stay in West London for the next two years.

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly had made the signing of Azpilicueta to a new deal one of his top priorities, and will be delighted that the former Marseille man has finally put pen to paper on a brand new contract.

The former Spanish international, who is club captain at Chelsea, had been in talks with Barca regarding a return to his homeland, but now appears set to extend his stay beyond 10 years, having originally arrived at the Blues from Marseille back in 2012.

The 32-year-old has played in 324 games for Chelsea, scoring 10 goals, and will turn 33 in just a couple of weeks.

The club's Twitter account announced the deal on social media this evening, with the Tweet: "Mr. Chelsea. Two more years."

It is understood that Azpilicueta will earn £100,000 a week on his new deal.
