Manchester United have been handed a blow in signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this summer.

The Red Devils have identified the Serbian as the fallback option if they can't sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.

It was recently claimed that he could be available for €50m, but this has been denied by Lazio president Claudio Lolito.

Speaking to Il Messagero, Lolito said that the 27-year-old is worth much more than what is being said by the media.

He said:"Milinkovic for €50m (£42.3m)? At that amount, I don't sell him, he is worth much more. Our market is thus complete and finished."

Milinkovic-Savic has entered the final two years of his Lazio deal, but the Serie A outfit are in no hurry to sell him.

They previously valued him in the region of €70m, and United may need to pay a similar figure to secure his services.

It remains to be seen whether United are prepared to make such a huge outlay for one of their long-term transfer targets.
