Man Utd to make final push to sign Frenkie de Jong

De Jong to Man Utd still on?

Manchester United are prepared to make a final attempt to land Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.

The Red Devils agreed a deal worth £72m with the Catalan giants back in July, but they could not finalise terms with the player.

The proposal has now expired, but the hierarchy believe they still have a realistic chance of landing the former Ajax man.

De Jong has been told by Barcelona to accept a pay-cut of around 40 per cent or else they may need to show him the exit door.

However, the Netherlands star does not want to leave without his deferred wages being paid. A resolution could be found soon.

If the dispute is sorted, Sport claim that United are convinced of landing De Jong with no formal interest from any other team.

Chelsea were hotly linked with his services earlier in the summer, but the London giants seem to have ended their pursuit.

Hence, United are in pole position to sign the player, and are prepared to hold a fresh meeting with Barcelona later this week.
