Chelsea to make fresh move for Ajax midfielder

Chelsea will make a fresh approach to sign Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Blues were determined to land the Mexico international in the final days of the summer transfer window, but they could not convince Ajax.

The Dutch champions did not have enough time to land a replacement, and thereby opted to keep hold of their prized asset.

Alvarez is said to be disappointed by the transfer decision, but he has now been assured that Chelsea will return for him.

The west London giants tried their utmost to convince Ajax on deadline day, and they will now make a fresh move in January.

After their failure to sign Alvarez, Chelsea decided to pursue Denis Zakaria on loan from Juventus with an option for a purchase.

Regardless of how the Swiss performs, the hierarchy appear determined to land Alvarez, who is said to be excited to join them.

Alvarez will cost around €50 million in the next transfer window.
