Chelsea made a late move for Lavia

Chelsea made a stunning £50m bid to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia before the transfer deadline.

The Blues were determined to land a new midfielder on deadline day, and they made an ambitious attempt to pursue the teenager.

However, the Saints rejected the proposal, considering the player only arrived two months ago from Manchester City for £12m.

Meanwhile, the Cityzens currently have a buy-back clause worth £40m for the player. The Saints felt no need to make an instant profit.

Lavia has made a superb impression in his first five appearances for the Saints, and recently scored in the 2-1 win over Chelsea.

The City graduate unfortunately picked up a hamstring injury during that game, and he is set to be sidelined for around six weeks.

He definitely looks to have a huge future ahead and there is a good possibility that City may re-sign him in the coming years.

Chelsea also tried to sign Edson Alvarez from Ajax on deadline day.
