United confident Ronaldo won't leave in January

Manchester United are confident that Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at the club until the end of the campaign, ESPN report.

The Portuguese was determined to leave the Red Devils during the summer transfer window in order to play Champions League football.

However, there were no concrete offers on the table due to his hefty £515,000-a-week wages. He had no choice but to stay at the club.

There have been suggestions that Ronaldo could be free to leave in January, but United believe the 37-year-old won't be going anywhere.

The Red Devils don't anticipate any offers for him midway through the campaign and feel clubs could wait for his contract to expire (June 2023).

Atletico Madrid are known to be firm admirers of the former Real Madrid man and they could possibly negotiate a pre-contract for next summer.

Ronaldo has endured a difficult 2022/23 season so far. He is no longer a regular starter and is still searching for his first open play goal.
