Man Utd favourites to land £52m goalkeeper?

Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa next summer.

The Red Devils currently have David de Gea as the number one. The Spaniard will be making his 500th appearance for the club tomorrow.

De Gea has been an excellent player over the past 11 years, but there are suggestions that he could be released at the end of the season.

He is currently one of the highest earners at £375,000-a-week and United do not want to trigger the 12-month option to keep him next term.

Instead of paying his wages, United want to pursue a young replacement instead and have their sights on landing Costa from FC Porto.

Costa has been in spectacular form in goal for the Primeira Liga giants. He has made key saves while excelling with his long ball distribution.

He would be a quality upgrade on De Gea next season, but won't come for cheap. Porto are holding out for his £52 million release clause.
