De Jong wants long-term Barcelona stay

Manchester United have been handed a transfer blow with Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong dismissing his chances of leaving the club.

The Red Devils agreed a fee of around £64m for the Dutchman last summer, but the midfielder made it clear that he did not want to leave Camp Nou.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, the 25-year-old has said that he is very happy at Barcelona and he wants to stay for another eight to 10 years with them.

He said: "I am very happy in Barcelona. When I play it's great and in terms of living here life is perfect. I see myself in Barcelona for as long as possible. I personally hope for another eight or 10 years."

The Red Devils signed Casemiro and Christian Eriksen to bolster their midfield, and they are expected to continue the rebuild next summer.

United boss Erik ten Hag is still keen on reuniting with De Jong, but that appears unlikely to happen following the midfielder's comments.
