Man Utd eye move for Martin Zubimendi

Zubimendi on United's transfer target list

Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi has been linked with a January transfer window move to Manchester United from Real Sociedad. The versatile 23-year-old has caught the eye since his promotion to the Sociedad first team in 2019, and is now an ever present at the La Liga side.

United manager Erik ten Hag is known to have deployed scouts to monitor the Spain international's progress, and glowing references have been sent back to the Dutchman. Zubimendi has been a crucial member of Sociedad's side in recent years, and finally made his debut last year for Spain's national team.

Man Utd will need to battle with Barcelona to sign Zubimendi. The Catalan club have been given a budget of close to 30 million euros in January, and the majority of that will be spent on any acquisition of the 5 foot 11 midfielder.

Zubimendi's preferred position is as a defensive midfielder, but is also comfortable playing in central midfield and has been known on occasion to play in defence.

With a contract running until 2027 and a minimum fee release clause of close to 59 million euros, United will need to negotiate to reduce any transfer fee closer to match the club's budget.
