United face competition for Gakpo

Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the pursuit of PSV Eindhoven sensation Cody Gakpo, Mundo Deportivo claim.

The Netherlands star has been in red-hot form this season with 13 goals and 17 assists from just 24 appearances for his club.

He has also excelled for his national side at the World Cup. He currently has three goals from as many group stage matches.

His form has caught the eye of United, who are long-term admirers, but they are now set to face competition from Liverpool.

As per Mundo Deportivo, United are fearful of missing out on Gakpo in January amid interest from their European rivals.

Liverpool have entered the pursuit of the 23-year-old while Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are likewise keeping tabs.

United are no longer alone in the pursuit of the forward, who could cost in upwards of €50m during the next transfer window.

Gakpo is widely expected to leave PSV in January. The forward apparently has a gentleman's agreement with the Dutch outfit.
